<p>An optical system consisting of a prism (32) and a lens (26) is supported on a plate (34) which is rotatable about its vertical axis (A) and mounted on a platform (20') providing adjustment of vertical elevation, focuses a beam of monochromatic ultra violet light, generated by a laser (14) on to a varnish coated substrate (10). The wavelength is 190-250 nanometres and coating thickness is not less than 50 Micro e.g. cross linking is achieved after 10 x 45 mJ laser pulses at 1 Hz and allows a work advancement rate of 6m per second for irradiation of 10 x 20 mm area items.</p> |
