METHOD FOR REMOVING LOWER HYDROCARBON IN WASTE GAS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently remove a lower hydrocarbon in a waste gas by passing the waste gas through a catalyst containing a rhodium oxide supported on a carrier containing chromium oxide and alumina. SOLUTION: This gas treating method particularly useful for the catalytic oxidation of the hydrocarbon in a sulfurcontaining waste gas from a lean burn gas engine is for recovering a purified waste gas by passing the waste gas through the catalyst containing the rhodium oxide supported on the carrier containing chromium oxide and alumina. The carrier has preferably a monolithic structure optionally reinforced by a silica fiber. In the production of the rhodium catalyst supported on chromium oxide and alumina, as the monolithic carrier of alumina reinforced by the silica fiber and cells of 350 per 1 in<2> , a material impregnated with chromium nitrate by dipping the carrier twice in a 10%(v/v) chromium nitrate aq. solution is preferably used.
