PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ink jet recorder for recording a color image by jetting ink drops of a plurality of colors in which a high quality image can be formed by controlling one or more than one color not to be used in a specified area of predetermined input gradation thereby enhancing the granularity. SOLUTION: A recording head 6 carried on a carriage 5 to reciprocate in the main scanning direction has a plurality of heads for yellow, magenta, cyan and black. When an image is printed by flying ink drops from a plurality of nozzles of each head, functional evaluation of granulatity is made for the input gradation level to determine a low functional evaluation point (highlight part) of low gradation and a high functional evaluation point (shadow part) of intermediate to high gradation. At the time of printing an image by adding dots of cyan C to a solid pattern, cyan is printed with the characteristics using no highlight nor shadow part. |
