555,070. Retreading tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., KING, F. G. W., and BULGIN, D. Jan. 30, 1942, No. 1279. [Class 70] [Also in Group XI] Tyres are re-capped or re-treaded by superposing a vulcanized tread on an intermediate layer of electrically conductive rubber with bonding layers of vulcanizable rubber which are vulcanized by passage of electric current through the conductive rubber. The intermediate layers may be formed by a band or ring of vulcanized rubber containing acetylene black or other conductive carbon black covered with thin sheets of vulcanizable rubber or with coats of solution ; or the band may be vulcanized to the tread. The band may be thin at the edges to increase the heating effect and may have transverse metallic elements embedded therein. The vulcanizing may be effected while the tyre casing is enclosed in a ring and is inflated to apply pressure. |
