PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve reliability of an electric double layer capacitor against vibrations, by fixing an element body in a bottomed container by filling up the space between the element body and an internal surface of the container with a resin which remains solid at the operating temperature of the capacitor. SOLUTION: An element body 50 of an electric double layer capacitor is constituted as a wound element body or laminated element body by winding a positive electrode body and a negative electrode body respectively carrying polarizable electrode layers around a metallic current collecting body with a separator in between or alternately laminating a plurality of positive and negative electrode bodies one on the other on both surfaces of the current collecting body. The metallic current collecting body is composed of foil of Al, stainless steel, Ni, Ta, etc., having a roughened surface. Before housing the element body 50 in a bottomed container 60, in addition, the element body 50 is impregnated with a nonaqueous electrolytic solution. The element body 50 is housed in the container 60 with a space 61v between the body 50 and a bottom 61 of the container and another space 63v between the body 50 and a sidewall 63 of the container 60. Then the element body 50 is fixed in the container 60 by filling up the spaces 61v and 63v with a resin 64 which remains solid at the operating temperature of the capacitor. |
