The fixing shank part of the pin contains a slot (6) extending the length of the shank and dividing the shank into two or more inter-spaced flexible shank parts (7,8). The outer mantle surface (9) of the shank has a radius (rmin, rmax) that varies over the length of the shank, the maximum radius (rmax) being equal to the radius (R) of the cylindrical end (10) of the shank for receiving the crown or jaw segment. A radial undercut is formed in the area of the minimum shank radius (rmin). The pin comprises a fixing shank (2) and a socket shank (3) releasably insertible into a seat in a guide sleeve located in the model base. An Independent claim is also included for a socket connection using this pin to secure a dental crown or jaw segment onto a model base.
