<p>The invention concerns a method for relaying IP frames in the form of PDU application frames in an ATM switch with distributed network architecture and output memory storage comprising a management module and several input (7i....7k) and output (7j) relay sets provided with a routing emulation function for routing the IP frame between users of different LANE media and represented in each of said LANE's by its LEC router module. The method consists in offsetting the frame relaying function in the ATM layer of the relay sets by inspecting the first cell of each PDU application frame reaching an input relay set (7i...7k) to retrieve therefrom the intended recipient's IP address, by searching in a blank cover table (9i...9k) for a couple relay set (logical channel, output direction) regarding the IP address concerned and the input logical channel and by using the translation obtained for all the PDU application frame cells. The blank cover table (9i....9k) is updated using routing data derived from the resident emulating function in the management module (4). A request for updating the blank cover (9i..9k) is transmitted to the management module (4) if the sought IP address is not found therein or if the information regarding said address is obsolete. The invention is applicable to ATM communication networks.</p> |
