PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To separate the subject microorganisms having antimicrobial activity by culturing a microbial suspension in a solid Growth medium for Lactobacillus lactis followed by laminating the system with a carbon source-contg. liquefied semi-solid and then culturing test microorganisms and detecting a proliferation inhibitory zone. SOLUTION: A suspension of microorganisms derived from an animal source is inoculated upon a solid growth medium for Lactobacillus lactis, the growth medium is then incubated under such conditions as to promote the proliferation of Lactobacillus lactis colonies to replicate the colonies; and a mixture of a suspension of living test microorganisms and a liquefied semi-solid containing a carbon source such as glycerol or glyceryl aldehyde is overlaid on the above- inoculated growth medium, which is then incubated under such conditions as to promote the proliferation of the test microorganisms, and a proliferation inhibitory zone enclosing the resultant Lactobacillus lactis colonies is detected to carry out a screening of the separated products of antibiotic-productive Lactobacillus lactis, thus separating the aimed Lactobacillus reuteri having the ability to produce antibiotics. |
