The present invention relates to a water-soluble detergent comprising a non-ionic surfactant and an active builder, wherein said detergent additionally comprises a polyelectrolyte. The detergent builder may consist of sodium carbonate or can be selected among the following compositions: a composition containing from 81.0 to 83.4 wt.% of sodium carbonate and from 16.6 to 19.0 wt.% of carbamide; a composition containing from 40.0 to 46.0 wt.% of sodium carbonate and from 54.0 to 60.0 wt.% of a sodium metasilicate of the general formula Na2O . n SiO2 where n = 1; and a composition containing from 39.5 to 44.0 wt.% of sodium carbonate, from 55.0 to 59.2 wt.% of a sodium metasilicate of the general formula Na2O . n SiO2 where n = 1, and from 0.8 to 1.5 wt.% of carbamide. The detergent components are selected in the following proportions: from 0.2 to 14.0 wt.% of non-ionic surfactant, from 2.5 to 5.5 wt.% of polyelectrolyte, the balance being the active builder.
