Magazine for storing side sealing chains and equipment for installing and removing the chains

Each compartment (30) has storage boxes (33) holding a pair of side sealing chains (19,20). Transporting frame (34) between magazine and forming section has arms (36) which move in and out of magazine to remove or replace storage boxes, and are raised or lowered to a holding position on a working plane (35). Capstan drive units (57,58) draw the sealing chains into and out of the forming section. The transporting frame (34) comprises a row of perpendicular supports (37) carrying the moving arms (36) and mounted on frames (39) moving along rails (40) transverse to the magazine (29). The moving frames are powered by a motor (41) and rack drive (42). The moving arms (36) are mounted on carriages (49) moved along the perpendicular supports by a motor and rack drive (52), the motor being suspended on a carrier connecting the carriages (49) of two adjacent supports (37). A swiveling plate (59) on the forming unit in the working plane (35) and a fixed supporting plate on the transporting frame support the chains (19,20) during chain interchange.
