PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a solid fuel having a high calorific value and a reduced chlorine content by adding to a combustible waste comprising a chlorine containing material an inorganic material which produces a chloride capable of being water-soluble upon reacting with a chlorine molecule and/or hydrogen chloride, heating to allow the formation of a water soluble chloride, and washing the water soluble chloride with water. SOLUTION: A combustible waste of 100 pts.wt. comprising a chlorine containing material is blended with about 1-10 pts.wt. of an inorganic material which produces a non-gaseous chloride capable of being water-soluble upon reacting at about 250-350 deg.C with a chlorine molecule and/or hydrogen chloride, preferably one or more metals of group I or II in the periodical table or oxides, carbonates or hydroxides thereof. The mixture is then heated at about 250-350 deg.C in a nitrogen and/or an inert gas atmosphere or under vacuum for 10 min., washed with water, and dehydrated to obtain a solid fuel having a chlorine content of 2,000 ppm or less, a calorific value of 4,500 kcal/kg or more, and a carbon/hydrogen molar ratio of 1 or less.
|
