The lap or knee tray (1) rests on the lap and is recessed on the underside for the thighs and holed to varying depth and size on the tray top for glasses etc. The thigh recess should be slightly diagonal. In a variant, the tray is made of foldable cardboard having a pre-formed push-in lid for the users thighs as well as top holes for the glasses. The cardboard tray has a re-closable side piece as well as a handle and can contain heat-insulating material for use as cold box or lunch box.
