摘要 An existing ion-exchange filter has a first vessel for cation-resin, a second vessel for anion-resin, and a differential conductivity measuring system. The two vessels are regenerated in sries in a reverse flow operation. Under this invention, the second vessel is upstream of the first vessel during the regneration procedure. A combined container is used to hold both vessels, the first vessel being above the second and sepd. from it by a partition penetrated by nozzles. This nozzle plate extends over the entire width of the container. The resin in both vessels is loosely packed. The second vessel is bounded on the upstream side during regeneration by a second partition with nozzles, beyond which is a pressure equalisation chamber. The second vessel is connected on the upstream side to an acid supply system which contains a mixing device provided with a regeneration-water supply and an acid measuring container. The acid used is hydrochloric or sulphuric. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used in the design of ion-exchange filters having anion and cation units. The need for two ion-exchange vessels is removed and the manufacturing cost is considerably reduced. The need for externally supplied fluids for regeneration of the resins is greatly reduced, since the acid used for regenerating the second vessel (say HCl) is converted by the regeneration process to a second acid (H2SO4) which serves to regenerate the second vessel.
