A CALL ROUTING SYSTEM FOR ROUTING CALLS TO OR FROM SUBSCRIBER TERMINALS

The present invention provides a call routing system for routing calls to or from subscriber terminal (ST) lines in a telecommunications system. The call routing system comprises a first storage (520) having type records (522), each type record identifying attributes of a type of subscriber terminal, a second storage (510) having line records (524), each line record identifying information about a line supported by a subscriber terminal of the telecommunications system, and a third storage (500) having ST records (505), each ST record relating to a subscriber terminal within the telecommunications system. Each ST record contains a first pointer (514) to a type record in the first storage identifying the type of that subscriber terminal, and a second pointer (516) to a line record in the second storage identifying a line supported by that subscriber terminal. Further, the call routing system comprises one or more call routing elements arranged to access the third storage to retrieve information about a subscriber terminal line required to route a call to or from that subscriber terminal line. Hence, the present invention provides a call routing system which contains all the necessary information about subscriber terminals, and the equipment lines connected to those subscriber terminals, to enable calls to be effectively routed to and from items of telecommunications equipment connected to those subscriber terminals, and which requires a significantly reduced memory capacity in order to perform the call routing functions.
