PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ball socket type shaft joint wherein friction in the joint is reduced to a minimum and the life of the joint is extended. SOLUTION: A ball socket type shaft joint 10 is provided with side part bearing half parts 14 and 16 having two hard self-adjusting tapers which respectively include inner spherical surfaces 32 and 34. By adhesive using rigid reinforcing copolymer as a base, adhesive using ceramic as a base or high-temperature adhesive, a low friction synthetic filament impregnated cloth overlay 56 adhered to the inner spherical surface is lined in the inner spherical surface. Each bearing half part receives a stud head part 36 and a compression pre-load in a socket 20. When the stud head part is moved or pivotally moved in the bearing with respect to the compressed cloth overlay 56, the bearing taper is controlled such that the microscopic low place of the stud head part is filled with fine filament particles. |
