PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the growth of reverse domains into pixels and to prevent the degradation in driving margins by homeotropically orienting liquid crystals in the regions specifically upper than the ends at least one side of pixels which are intersecting parts of scanning electrodes and information electrodes and non-driving regions adjacent to these ends. SOLUTION: The homeotropically oriented or hybrid oriented regions are disposed along the ends of the information electrodes 1 intersecting with a uniaxial orientation treatment direction 5 on the side intersecting previously with the treatment direction 5. When the uniaxial orientation treatment direction intersects with both of the information electrodes 1 and the scanning electrodes 2, the regions are formed along the ends of the scanning electrodes 2. Further, when the uniaxial orientation treatment direction is so set as to be anti-parallel with the upper and lower substrates, the non-driving regions on both sides of the electrodes intersecting with the treatment direction and the regions intruding >=1μm into the pixels from both ends of the electrodes are formed as the homeotropic regions or hybrid orientation regions and are preferably a range of 1 to 10μm in this case. |
