FLUOROALKOXYBENZENE DERIVATIVES HAVING ETHER BOND, LIQUID-CRYSTAL COMPOSITION, AND LIQUID-CRYSTAL DISPLAY ELEMENT

Liquid-crystalline compounds which have a significantly large permittivity anisotropy, environmental stability, and excellent compatibility with liquid-crystal compounds; and a liquid-crystal composition and a display element which contain any of the compounds as a component of the liquid-crystal composition and are hence capable of being operated at a low voltage and of high-speed response. The compounds are fluoroalkoxybenzene derivatives represented by general formula (1) wherein A1, A2, and A3 each independently is trans-1,4-cyclohexylene, etc.; B1, B2, and B3 each independently is a single bond, 1,2-ethylene, etc.; R is C1-15 alkyl optionally substituted by halogen; Rf is C1-3 fluoroalkyl; and k, m, and n each independently is 0 or 1; provided that when k=0, then at least one of B1, B2, and B3 is a methyleneoxy bond, etc.; when m+n>/=1, then the independence of A1, A2, and A3 is partly limited; and when B1 or/and B2 and B3 each is a single bond, then Rf is limited to part of the fluoroalkyls.
