<p>A recorder/reproducer for azimuth-recording a data on a magnetic recording medium which records/reproduces a data on/from a plurality of adjacent inclining recording tracks on a magnetic tape T using heads (13a, 13b) having different azimuth angles. An encoder (23) in a recording system converts data into a code string having the null point of frequency spectrum at the null point of DC-free and PR1 or PR4 partial response waveform equalization characteristics. For example, record encoding is performed with 8/10 MSN code. An equalization circuit (28) in reproduction system performs the partial response waveform equalization and a data detector (29) detects data by Viterbi decoding method where a status transition takes place while taking into account the features of the code string. Azimuth recording of narrow track width is realized easily while suppresssing lowering of effective recording rate due to increase of azimuth angle.</p> |
