FIELD: organic chemistry and technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a new catalytic method of synthesis of optically active compounds of the general formula (I) <EMI ID=0.548 HE=21 WI=24 TI=CHI> where R and R mean alkyl that can be broken by oxygen atom at position that is different of alpha- or beta-position, or optionally substituted benzyl; R means hydrogen, lower alkyl, optionally substituted benzyl, -CO-R , -COO-R or -CON-R<CHF>4@2</CHF> where R means lower alkyl or aryl. Compounds are synthesized by asymmetric hydrogenation of compound of the formula (II) <EMI ID=0.549 HE=21 WI=24 TI=CHI> where R<SP>1</SP>,R<SP>2</SP>,R have values indicated above. Compounds are subjected for asymmetric hydrogenation in the presence of a complex of optically active, preferably atropoisomeric diphosphine ligand, with metal of group VIII.
