PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten read time in transmission or copying by performing lighting confirmation for the number of times less than an original sheet number when continuously reading the plural sheets of an original within a prescribed time. SOLUTION: After read image data are stored in an image memory 85, whether or not a read original is a leading page is discriminated, and when it is the leading page, the lighting confirmation processing of a light source 37 is performed. In the processing, a carriage is moved to a lighting confirmation position opposite to a white plate, the light source 37 is lighted simultaneously with the activation of a timer 90 and the white plate is read by an image pickup device 43. After the lapse of set time by the timer 90, the image data for one line in the read image data of the image pickup device 43 are binarized, and when the white picture element ratio is larger than a prescribed value, it is judged that the light source 37 is a normal light quantity. When it is smaller than the prescribed value, the light source 37 is not normal and the read image data are present in the storage of the image memory 85 when discriminating whether or not they are present, it is considered that original read is not normal, the read image data are eliminated and a message for urging the exchange of the light source 37 is displayed at a display part 86. |
