摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and surely control light emission of all pixels of discharge display panel, having high luminance and high light-emitting efficiency by combining a subfield which displays a pixel in an odd numbered pixel row with a subfield displaying a pixel in an even numbered pixel row and independently displaying/emitting all pixels in a screen. SOLUTION: A sustaining pulse 31a applied on odd numbered sustaining electrodes C1 , C3 ,... and a sustaining pulse 32a applied on odd numbered scanning electrodes S1 , S3 ,... are applied alternately. Also, a sustaining pulse 31b applied on even numbered sustaining electrodes C2 , C4 ,... and a sustaining pulse 32b applied on even numbered scanning electrodes S2 , S4 ,... are applied alternately. Consequently, the phase of the sustaining pulse applied on the scanning electrodes and the sustaining electrodes being divided in two groups is contrived such that the sustaining discharge is performed for every pixel row. The display for every one pixel row is made to be a display of pixels in an odd numbered pixel row and the display of pixels in an even numbered pixel row and by combining them with each other so that all the pixels are independently emitted/ displayed.
