METHOD AND DEVICE FOR REPRODUCING SOURCE DATA OF DIGITALLY CODED VIDEO FILM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the undesired change of the display order in particular that is caused after a GOA header is lost by using a time reference that is obtained from the information items stored in a decoder during the leading decoding of many pictures and independent of the time reference code of each picture in order to reproduce the display order. SOLUTION: An independent time reference is used to reproduce the display order of a DVD reproduction device. In this case, a small number of information items of a decoded data stream assures the independent time reference and accordingly the data which are decoded in a specific time cycle are written into a memory unit 16 storing three types of frame memories A to C. A control unit 19 controls various component elements of an encoder and includes a GOP counter, an IP picture counter and a B picture counter. Then the unit 19 decides the display order even when a GOP header contained in a bit stream is lost. As a result, the display order is never changed after the GOP header disappeared.
