SOLUTION: Starting materials for catalyst components are mixed, a hydrazine compd. is added to the mixture by 0.01-3 mols based on 12 mol all Mo atoms contained in the starting materials and a soln. or slurry of the mixture is prepd. and heat-treated to prepare the objective catalyst for production of methacrylic acid represented by the formula Pa Mob Vc Cud Xe Yf Zg Oh [X is As, Sb, Bi, etc., Y is Fe, Zn, etc., Z is K, Rb, etc., and (a) to (h) show the atomic ratio among the elements].
