Adjustable shock absorber for motor vehicle

The shock absorber has a cylinder (1) with an axially movable piston rod (2) for a piston (3) dividing the cylinder into two working chambers (27,28). The piston has through-flow openings (19) with a closure ring (21) for flow in both directions. The flow opening facing side of the ring has a single hydraulic pressure receiving chamber. The pressure receiving chamber can be defined by annular channels and is connected directly to the higher pressure chambers through openings (29,31,38,39). The chamber is connected to the lower pressure chamber via a spring loaded valve (34) which controls bores (31-33) connected to a channel (35,41).
