PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject product for treatment, etc., of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus by collecting biomass obtained by culture of a bacterium of the genus Arthrobacter in stationary period of culture, lysing the biomass and retaining an intracellular component and a structure fragment. SOLUTION: This product is used for recovering and maintaining a physiologically permissible concentration of glucose of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus patients. A bacterium of the genus Arthrobacter is cultured in a culture medium containing pentose, hexose or sucrose as an assimilable carbon source under growth promoting conditions assisting propagation of the bacterium of the genus Arthrobacter and the cultured product is subjected to centrifugal separation in growth stationary period of inoculated bacterium and biomass formed by the bacterium is collected and serum is disposed and the formed biomass is lysed and intracellular component and structural fragment from the lysed cell are retained to provide the objective lytic product of cultured bacterium belonging to the genus Arthrobacter useful for pharmaceutical composition for treating non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus patients.
