PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject pharmaceutical agent that is useful for fracture prevention through the improvement in bone strength by usign enzymatic hydrolyze of collagen or relation as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: This pharmaceutical preparation contains an enzymatic hydrolyzate obtained by treating collagen or gelatin from bovine or porcine bones and skins with a protease of bromelain, papain, ficin and the like. This enzymatic hydrolyzate may be, when necessary, subjected to fermentation treatment and purification with yeast or lactobacillus. Its average molecular weight is <=20,000, particularly the average molecular weight is 4,000-6,000 and its range is 1,000-30,000. This hydrolyzate is preferably formulated to an oral preparation, the daily dose is 1,000-10,000 mg/adult of collagen or gelatin hydrolyzate in twice or thrice portions. The pharmaceutical preparation can inhibit the reduction of bone strength and is useful for functional retention and fracture prevention for post-menopause females and senile elderly people. |
