The first part is a water-tight septic tank separated into two, of high density and high strength concrete, with specially designed inlet ports 39 and outlet ports 43 which is filled, initially, with water 40 and accepts all effluent from the building (W.C., kitchens, bathrooms, washing machines etc.). The sediment 66 and the fats in the effluent are retained in this tank. Thus only water passes into the second part 35 which is organic and microbiologically charged, but clear. Anaerobic bacteria grow in the tank and inactivate and minimise the sediment. Thus, there remains a small surplus of inorganic and non-degradable sediment which, after several years, fills the greater part of the tank and clearly reduces its performance. To regenerate its operation, the sediment is emptied by a tank wagon and the tank refilled with water. This is done once every 7- 15 years. The second part is an absorbent arrangement (filter beds) where the water is distributed by a suitably designed and constructed network of special perforated distribution pipes 84 and filtered uniformly on the ground. Thanks to pores and the aerobic bacteria present on the surface layers, the water is cleaned and decontaminated, thus ceasing to be a potential pollutant or contaminant for the deeper ground layers and underground water. The organic load carried by the water does not pollute the ground but, rather, invigorates it. |
