PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium which brings little limitation in the use of a material for a ferromagnetic substance layer, which is capable of highly dense and sharp recording, which has a long service life through repeated recording and reading (reproduction) performance, and which can also be used as a polarizer and applied to a display because it facilitates visual observation by providing light and a magnetic field. SOLUTION: The medium is constituted of a substrate 1, a number of grooves 3 formed on its surface and provided with mutually parallel side walls 2 vertical to the substrate surface, and ferromagnetic substance layers 4 that are formed on the side wall face of the grooves and that are 0.1-5 μm high and 5-200 nm thick; the ferromagnetic substance layers 4 are so formed as to be apart by equal spaces (L1=L2) in the range from 0.2 μm to 2.0 μm in the direction crossing the grooves. |
