933,450. Electroplating with platinum. ENGELHARD INDUSTRIES Inc. Nov. 18, 1960 [Nov. 23, 1959], No. 39736/60. Class 41. A platinum plating bath contains potassium hydroxy platinate (K 2 Pt(OH) 6 ) and an electrolyte to improve the conductivity, e.g. KOH or K 2 So 4 . The electrolyte is prepared by treating H 2 PtCl 6 with NaOH and then neutralizing with acetic to precipitate H 2 Pt(OH) 6 which is then converted to the potassium salt, and used at a minimum concentration of 4g. Pt per litre of electrolyte. The plating solution is tolerant of carbonate build up without precipitation. Surfaces of brass, silver, nickel, gold, titanium, copper, tungsten and rhodium may be plated after cleaning and etching. |
