The invention relates to a drive system with a planetary gear (4) and a variable speed drive motor (2). The aim of the invention is to provide optimised cooling of said drive motor. To this end, the drive motor projects with its housing (6) at least partially into a cavity, said cavity being situated in the lubricant area of the gear housing (14). This means that a part of the exothermic surface of the drive motor enters into good thermal contact with the liquid gear lubricant, so as to prevent harmful high temperatures from being reached in the drive motor.
