PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the operability of document editing by replacing character string data in document data stored in a document storage means with substitute character string data stored in a substitute character string storage means. SOLUTION: When the movement of a cursor to a retrieval character string input part is indicated, a CPU 1 sets a character string buffer 5-2 in a RAM 5 and writes a character string inputted from an input means 3 in the character buffer 5-2. Then space code representing a blank in the character string in the character string buffer 5-2 are converted into space display codes representing a space mark indicating the presence of the blank, the character string having the blank converted into the space mark is displayed at a retrieval character string input part, and an input wait state is entered. Consequently, the blank of the character string to be substituted can be confirmed visually distinctively to lighten the burden on the operator. |
