Processing of animal slurry (1) consisting of solid and liquid fractions (3, 4) comprises: (i) evaporating the water content from the liquid fraction using heat supplied from friction-derived energy; (ii) introducing the liquid fraction to a vessel (5) holding a charge of binding agent (16) (e.g. wood shavings); (iii) continually adding liquid to the mixture of fluid and binding agent and binding mineral and/or organic substances in the liquid; and (iv) enriching the binding agent (16) with mineral and/or organic substances. Also claimed is a suitable assembly (5) in which the heat is generated by a rotating disc (10) on a shaft (11).
