A method of securing a flange to a bobbin core comprises providing the end of the core with a portion of reduced diameter forming a radially extending shoulder, fitting the flange over the end of the core in abutting relationship with the shoulder and providing resilient means to bias the flange against the shoulder, which resilient means are pre-stressed to counteract the axial force tending to unseat the flange during the winding of yarn on the core. In a preferred embodiment, the resilient means comprises an elastic ring fitted over the end of the core and seated in an annular groove in the bore of the flange, the pre-stressing being derived by turning the end of the core radially outwards over the flange. Alternatively, the required pre-stressing may be achieved by means of a spiral, cup-shaped or flat spring or the like, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown). The end of the core is preferably provided with a plug comprising integral inner and outer hub portions connected by tangentially extending ribs which maintain the outer surface of the plug and the inner surface of the core in close contact when the plug is forced into the end of the core, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown). |
