HARD AMORPHOUS CARBON POWDER AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a hard amorphous carbon powder and to provide an efficient method for producing the carbon powder. SOLUTION: This hard amorphous carbon powder consist essentially of carbon, has >=1,000 HV hardness and comprises 0-65 atomic % hydrogen and <=10 atomic % other inevitable components based on 35-100 atomic % carbon. The method for producing the hard amorphous carbon powder comprises depositing a product obtained by the vapor phase discharge reaction in a raw material gas on a substrate having low adhesion to the hard amorphous carbon powder. Thereby, the hard amorphous carbon is obtained as a fine powdery form.
