A method and apparatus for the after-treatment of an extruded and sized and or cooled object 8, in particular a plastics extrusion comprising, in cross-section at least one hollow first part 27 and at least one additional solid part 28 connected thereto in which the extrusion is passed through a device 13 having a heating duct 26 aligned in the longitudinal direction of the extrusion 8 for heating of the solid part 28 to a temperature in excess of 70‹C either by radiant heat or passage of a heated medium through the duct via supply ducts 31. The use of the method and apparatus allows the formation of extrusions with reduced distortion in the longitudinal direction.
