PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the adaptability with divided spinous processes in an artificial spinous process which is inserted between vertically halved divided spinous processes to extend a vertebral canal by providing an intermediate part having contact surfaces laid along the outer end part of a pair of divided spinous processes cut and removed on both end parts, and inside and outside parts extending inward and outward. SOLUTION: An artificial spinous process 10 has an intermediate part 11, an inside part 12 and an outside part 13. The intermediate part 11 has a pair of contact surfaces 11a laid along the outer end parts 21b of divided spinous processes after cutting on both end parts. The inside part 12 is extended from the center part of the intermediate part 11 to a space between the divided spinous processes, and formed so that the width in the horizontal section is gradually narrowed toward a vertebral canal 24. Its end surface on the vertebral canal 24 side (inside) is formed of a part of a cylindrical inner surface 12a inclined on the intermediate part 11 toward the head side. The outside part 13 is extended in the direction opposite to a pair of divided spinous processes 21a, and formed into a trapezoid in which the width in the horizontal section is gradually narrowed toward the top end.
