PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain staining even in the case of viewing a panel from an oblique direction at the time of impressing voltage by adding a blue dichroic coloring matter to a liquid crystal layer. SOLUTION: When the voltage for performing white display is impressed on 1st and 2nd electrodes 22 and 23, the orientation direction of liquid crystal molecules 27 oriented nearly perpendicularly when the voltage is not impressed is changed in accordance with the impressed voltage, and the molecules 27 take the angle of about 45 deg. to base plates 20 and 21. Then, the blue dichroic coloring matter 28 is added to the liquid crystal layer 26. Since the molecules of the coloring matter 28 are arrayed in a direction parallel with the molecules 27, the angle formed by the coloring matter 28 with incident light is near to 90 deg.. Thus, the desired white display is obtained when it is viewed from the front (direction shown by an arrow S') of the panel, and the excellent display where yellow staining is restrained even when it is viewed from the obliquely upward side (direction shown by an arrow S) of the panel is obtained. Therefore, the liquid crystal display panel and the liquid crystal display device whose contrast is high and where the staining is restrained are obtained. |
