Early switching method between redundant transmission paths

The method includes the steps of transmitting redundant message cells respectively over redundant transmission paths, and examining the message cells at reception for errors. Only one redundant message cell, which follows a last processed message cell according to a sequence number carried by the message cells, is selected for further processing. A counter reading is provided for each transmission path, the counter of the transmission path, over which the currently selected message cell was transferred, is set into an initial condition, and the counter of the other transmission path is incremented. If the counter reading of the transmission path, by which the momentarily processed message cell was received, reaches a predetermined threshold value, it is switched to another transmission path, whereby the first as faultless received message cell is processed further.
