In a method of casting high quality mild steel by applying sub-atmospheric pressure degasification treatment to the pouring jet, the sub-atmospheric pressure P G maintained during the casting time T G remains at its maximum during-a time T N of degasification of the metal in the mould, whereby T N # T G , T N maximum being equal to three-fifth minutes per ton, and the pressure P acting on the ingot after time T N being such that 2P G #P#760 mm. Hg, with a minimum value of P=20 mm. Hg. The pressure acting on the ingot after degasification period T N may be increased to a value between the minimum value of P and 100 mm. Hg by adding gases, and maintained at this value until solidification of the ingot. |
