PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the display capable of forming an observation area and an observation window which are substantially improved in the uniformity of a light intensity profile. SOLUTION: A spatial optical modulator 2 and a parallax barrier 6 operate associatively to cause Fresnel diffraction. Consequently, luminance becomes spatially uneven. When the spatial optical modulator 2 has pixels which are not vertically constant in aperture, the intensity profile of the window further varies. To compensate that, a mask 21 provided between the parallax barrier 6 and a back light 1 operates associatively with the parallax barrier 6 to generate an intensity pattern providing a variation reverse to the variation of the parallax pattern generated by the parallax barrier 6 and spatial optical modulator 2. Those variations are put one over the other to obtain the observation window which has substantially uniform light intensity.
