When the suspension is compressed by e.g. road irregularities, the hydraulic jack (132) is compressed, acting as a damper. Fluid flows from the hydraulic jack (132), to the hydro=pneumatic accumulator (102) by the pipe (104), through the valve assembly (103). Flow of fluid from the jack to the accumulator is through the spring loaded shuttle valve (140) running in the bore (134), which controls the variable restrictor (141) and is sensitive to the pressure drop across it. The flow reaches the accumulator through the non return valve (148,159). When the suspension rebounds, fluid from the jack flows through the orifice and ball valve (151,152). The shuttle valve (154), loaded by the spring (155), and its ball valve (158) open when the differential pressure between the passages (147,148) exceeds a pre=set figure. |
