PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved contour line encoder which effectively encodes a contour line and reduces video data to be transmitted still more. SOLUTION: This device consists of a 1st vertex selecting part 50 which polygonally approximates a contour line by using plural main vertexes in accordance with a 1st control signal, a main vertex encoding part 80 which encodes position information of each main vertex and generates it as encoded contour line data, an equal distance position vertex encoding part 90 which successively decides plural sub vertexes on the contour line in accordance with a 2nd control signal, generates and encodes position information of the sub vertexes, and a comparing part 70 which compares threshold Dmax with threshold TH, generates a 1st control signal when the Dmax is larger than the TH and generates a 2nd control signal when the Dmas is not. |
