1,199,030. Boron-containing steels. BROWN BOVERI/KRUPP REAKTORBAU G. m. b. H. Dec. 19, 1967 [ Dec. 23, 1966], No. 57708/67. Headings C7A and C7D. An alloy suitable for use as an absorber material in nuclear reactors is made by including in an austenitic Cr-Ni steel in which Cr is at least 30% by weight, at least 2% by weight of the final alloy of the B isotope <SP>10</SP>B. The alloy may be made by vacuum-melting the austenitic steel, adding Ti and Al, and then adding B. The product alloy may then be compacted in helium or argon, and sintered in vacuo. <SP>10</SP>B 2% may be introduced at 10% natural B. or as a <SP>10</SP>B-enriched mixture; preferably it is introduced in the form of ferroboron. A suitable alloy consists of:- Cr 36-38% Ni 6-8% <SP>10</SP>B 2% C 0À05% Al 0À2% Fe remainder. The alloy may be used in the form of tubular bodies for control rods, and for shields for withdrawal tubes for fuel spheres. Reference is also made to its use in constructional steelwork. |
