PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a transmission data amount by encoding the contour line of an object with respect to a video signal based on polygonal approximation while using correlation between adjacent contour line segments. SOLUTION: A 1st approximation error set expressing the difference between a reference contour line segment and a 1st line segment connecting both the end point of reference contour line segment is found, and a 2nd approximation error set expressing the difference between any one of remaining contour line segments and a 2nd line segment connecting both its end point is found. A differential error set is calculated by subtracting the 1st approximation error set from the 2nd approximation error set. As an error value corresponding to the differential error set, a 1st error value is found and as an error value corresponding to the 2nd approximation error set, a 2nd error value is found. Then, any one of differential error set and 2nd approximation error set is selected and encoded as an error set corresponding to the 2nd contour line segment, and the encoded error set is generated. |
