A conveyor for removing material, such as waste, from a silo bottom comprises fixed holding plates 4 situated above each other in a stepped arrangement and pushing plates 6 situated between adjacent holding plates 4. The pushing plates 6 are individually attached to a reciprocating carriage 9 at attachment points 11. The reciprocating motion of the carriage 9 is provided by piston means 23. The resulting reciprocating motion of the pushing plates 6 acts to move material 3 towards the outlet of the silo. In the return stroke of the pushing plates any matter adhering to the plates is scrapped off by the front edge 23 of a holding plate. The front edge being provided with a channel (22, figure 4) in which a pneumatic biasing means (21, figure 4) and a resilient seal member (28, figure 4) are situated. The holding plates 4, pushing plates 6 and the direction of pushing plate motion (P3, figure 2) may be inclined at an angle of 0-10{ (v 1 , figure 2) to the horizontal (18, figure 2) thereby allowing liquid drainage. The outlet is provided with a vertically adjustable gate 19 to control the volume of material being discharged from the silo. The silo may be further provided with a funnel (16, figure 6) and a compressing device (18, figure 2) to facilitate material removal. |
