PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyarylene sulfide resin composition good in melt flowability on melt-molding treatment, excellent in mechanical strengths, having extremely high dimensional accuracy, excellent in slidability on magnetic tapes, and suitable for contact members with magnetic tapes, such as VTR cylinders (magnetic drums), and to produce a sliding member. SOLUTION: This resin composition comprises (A) 20-40wt.% of a resin component comprising 40-90wt.% of a polyarylene sulfide resin and 60-10wt.% of a thermoplastic resin except the polyarylene sulfide resin, (B) 60-80wt.% of metasilicate whiskers having an average fiber diameter of <=5μm and an average aspect ratio of >=5, and further (C) an inorganic filler so that [(B)+(C)] is 60-80wt.% and (B) is >=15wt.%.
