A hand hold (1) for an artificial climbing wall is fixed to the wall by a central screw (6) and incorporates a tapering recess (3) to receive a wedge (2). The recess measures about 2.5 cm at its widest point and tapers to 1 cm at its other end. The wedge is used by inserting it at the widest point of the recess and blocking it at the narrower end.
