The invention relates to a method for inking a cylinder (4) with highly viscous printing ink, in which an ink duct (1) that is open at the top is used with a doctor blade (8) that is fitted negatively on the cylinder (4). A reserve of printing ink is added to an ink duct (1), such that an inking roller (12) forms in simple manner during the functioning of the machine. A regular and intensive inking of the cylinder (4) results with only low ink circulation.
