PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a detergent which exhibits a high detergency without damaging a hard surface, esp. a plastic surface, by preparing a detergent compsn. which cointains an amine oxide surfactant, does not substantially contain an org. solvent, and has specified surface tensions. SOLUTION: This compsn. contains an amine oxide surfactant, does not susbtantially contain an org. solvent, and has a value ofγOW.cosθof 0mN/m or lower. The value is obtd. by the equation:γOW.cosθ=γWs-γOS (whereinγWS,γOS, andγOW are the interfacial tensions at the interfaces of detergent compsn./hard surface, oil/hard surface, and detergent compsn./oil, respectively, in the case when rapeseed oil is used as the model oily dirt, and polypropylene as the hard surface; andθis the contact angle between the oil and the hard surface at the three-phase boundary surface formed by the detergent compsn./oil interface and the oil/hard surface interface). The amine oxide surfactant used is pref. the one represented by the formula (wherein R<1> is a 7-21C alkyl, etc.).
