The headrest is fitted to the backrest of a vehicle front occupant seat and has at least one support arm (10) fitted with a padded cushion (11) at one end and pivoted at its other end, with an operating mechanism (9) for moving it between a working position and a stowed position. The operating mechanism uses an electric motor (13) contained within a stationary pivot bearing (12) coupled to a rotary sleeve (16) supporting the support arm, via a slot (21) in the pivot bearing sleeve (15). The electric motor may be operated automatically upon closure of the respective seatbelt clasp.
